We decided to try a new place to stay when we were in Singapore last. The hotel is called Studio M, part of the Millennium group. Their claim to fame is that all their rooms are duplex lofts and that it is near Clarke Quay and its corresponding F&B and entertainment trappings. Firstly, a comment on its location – it’s actually closer to Robertson Quay and we notice that it has since changed the copy in its communications to reflect that. Anyway, it’s a nice little modern hotel and has a lovely gym, pool and deck but the rooms were a slight disappointment, largely because they were so tiny. Once the novelty of the loft wears out (very quickly), the rooms feel somewhat claustrophobic despite the dual-volume floor-to-ceiling windows.

There are also slight ergonomic issues such as the exceedingly tiny separate shower and WC and to get upstairs, you have to walk onto your writing desk! The bed on the upper deck is directly in front of the air-con vent that serves the entire unit so it gets pretty chilly in the wee hours as well. We also couldn’t get the wifi to work and because it’s quite new, be prepared to give your cabbie a full address and map so they can find it.
